Kingman & Las Vegas

Hollyhock growing sort of wild at the Kingman place

 Roses are Red

or Pink.  The auto watering system is working here.

Sandy swept the front patio, and all the walking steps around the house.
We're building up speed going down this road, in hopes of jumping over Lake Mead!

Common site on Hwy 93.  Buses go to the Skywalk, and to other sites near the Grand Canyon.

 Miss Sandy.

Skid escaped from Yuma Territorial Prison, and made it almost to Las Vegas.
When we were leaving Kingman, Skid poked himself on a cactus in the driveway.  When we came back, he nailed himself again on the same one :-)  I think he'll live.
The Excalibur was our home for the night. Not the newest or the largest on the strip but it was still pretty nice.

Riders of Kawasaki have their own club and hotel here!

Sandy strolling in front of New York New York.

The MGM Grand.  I had a friend that worked in security here for over 20 years.  He sure had lots of stories about this place and happenings there.

Motor cop trying to pull someone over.  We watched the show from an overhead bridge walking bridge.

Lyons in front of the MGM Grand.

This is one of the Best!

We were hungry and it was over 100 degrees on the sidewalk, so we decided to eat here at the Hard Rock Cafe.  After sitting down..the music and the prices drove us back to the sidewalk.

Skid and Sandy in Hawaii.

This is where we ended up having dinner.  The food was OK, the prices typical Strip, it was a fun place.  I got in a little trouble for taking a picture of the "Captain America" bike that you weren't suppose to take pictures of

There were a couple of these verdant growing bikes here.

This one looked like a Christmas tree ornament.

The other members of our dinner party.

Here we have the "Leaning buildings of Las Vegas"

All these places looked better at night. In fact, it's hard to believe just how many bright lights there are!

This place looked tempting for some dessert, but we wandered into the Paris Casino to look around.

The Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas.

A nice dinner house.  There are lots of these.  Entrees are usually around $25 to $50.  These are the medium priced places.  Not cheap to eat here like it used to be.

Inside the Paris

I guess you aren't suppose to take pictures inside, but there is soooo much stuff!

We saw 3 different Elvis guys on our walk.  This one was sort of skinny.

Another one that looks much better at night.  The Flamingo.

One of the oldest and still one of the BEST.  The Forum shops are wonderful to walk through.

Almost sundown.

Inside Caesars

Day or night, it's always the same blue cloudy sky inside the Palace.

We passed 2 Gelato shops in Caesar's

Rasberry anyone?

But if you'd rather have chocolate, they have it, as well as about 10 others

Another fine place to graze.

For the ladies with a real need for chocolate, you can shoot it up right into a vein!

The Cheesecake Factory.

A huge aquarium inside by the Forum Shops.

Lots of fish

Many of these short little vehicles here in Las Vegas

Almost dark now, the lights are on, but not brilliant yet.

Lots of good shows here.

There are dozens of these traveling bill board driving around.  Also many street hawkers passing out smut and advertizing cards and papers.  It was really irritating, but you just have to ignore them.

We're now walking back to Excalibur.

Lights are showing up.

Was hard to get a good shot of the fountain.  I think Skid has some better ones in his blog.  http://skid1850.blogspot.com

More Elvis

This lady was pushing a stroller with 2 small kids in it.  I think she was on the way to the Playboy mansion to try out for a bunny part.

For being in the middle of a desert, there sure is a lot of water here.

Eiffel Tower is lit up nicely.

The strip at dusk.

This lady with the balloon hat is drinking a 50 oz. daiquiri
.
A light wall along the sidewalk. And Skid.

And we're home.  Saw less than half the strip, and only a couple of the huge Casinos, but we had a good time. And it was a LONG, hot, walk.  Las Vegas was fun, but we had enough.  On the way out Friday morning, we stopped at Fry's Electronics, and had a much better time.

Big Engine in one of the City Parks in Kingman. This one is in Old Town.

Big Steam Engine and the Caboose.  Nothing in the middle.

Inside the RoadRunner Cafe.  This was the place Chunk liked to eat breakfast when he was in Kingman.  The waitress remembered him.

Sign at the Roadrunner.  It's been here on Route 66 for MANY years.

About 30 miles from Kingman, up in the hills, is the old Mining town of Chloride.  There was a large Copper mine here, and also several smaller Gold mines.

Some of the older buildings have been preserved to make a little display of what Chloride used to look like.  Here's the cemetery.

 The  "Dead End"

Skid and Sandy looking at some of the interesting head stones. (or head boards as the case may be)

Sandy in front of one of the Saloons

 Sherm striking up a tune!

 They still sell Root Beer!

This hand painted picture is just sort of out in the open with some junk.  I like it.

Sort of a strange flower, on a large bush

 Jim found the Privy

Mail comes in to a slightly more modern Post Office a couple blocks away

The Marshall has good hours.  Open once a week for 2 hours.  The rest of the time he's busy making things to sell here

We just arrived in Las Vegas.  The parking lot of where we'll be staying.  Skid and Sandy took pictures of Lake Mead, Hover Dam, and the new Bridge.  My battery was charging, so you'll have to see those athttp://skid1850.blogspot.com. He'll have it up later today or tomorrow.

Sandy wants to see this show, but she'll have to go alone.  Skid and I aren't into this sort of thing :-)

We're on the 18th floor.  This is the view from our window.

Our room is large and comfortable.  A nice size bathroom too.  We'll only be here one night, as soon as it gets dark, we'll be out walking the Strip. Skid and Sandy have never been to Las Vegas, so it will take awhile to see all the sights!
