June 11. WWR5 ends, travel starts

Sherm helping Mal cut up the veggies for dinner

Skid hanging out with "the dogs".  Mal and Yvette have 2 very gentle dogs and a large calico kitty.

Mal cooked up some of his mother-in-laws delicious Enchiladas, in addition he made up some lean pork Chili Verde, and of course, Spanish rice and refried beans.  Served with a light wine, this was an excellent meal!

One serving.  Excellent "home cooked" meal.  Thanks Joe and Yvette.  We had a good nights rest, and are ready to get "On the Road Again"

 Eager eaters.

The Blancs are growing their State Flower.  Nice Columbines line their house foundation.
I-70. Pretty Mountains.  Perfect Morning, started at the Flying J. in Cheyenne, Wyoming

Mountains, Rivers and Canyons. And, this Canadian RV seems to always be in front of me!

Went through 4 or 5 tunnels today.

Highest PAVED road in the US.  Maybe the World.

A Majestic Motor Home and a Majestic Mountain

 Beautiful shades of green.

We went over 2 passes higher than 11,000 feet. It was unusually warm up here today, perfect weather!

Entering the Eisenhower Tunnel.  One of the longest.

 Inside the tunnel

Entering Silverthorne.  We stopped at an Outlet Mall.  Sandy made sandwiches, we caught up on the pictures.

Mountain behind Silverthorne

Yum, Yum!

Skid surveying the best way out of the parking lot.

Window at the Zoo :-)

Another river, another canyon, and some chilly snow.

Vail

Uphill slow, Downhill fast!

Mountain Meadows

The Highway

The Colorado River is at flood stage in the canyon.  Almost up to the railroad tracks on the other side.

Still another tunnel.

Joe could send notes in a bottle to us in Yuma!  Same river is close to our house down there.

We arrived it Silt, Colorado, and Joe & Yvette's house  He was busy helping this man install an electronic cruise control on his Connie.

The travelers.  Skid, Sandy, and Sherm.

Yvette is showing us the trailer Joe is making.

This will be a cool teardrop camper someday soon

This project was finished before we had dinner.

Sherm on a new Vaquero!  Rode it all the way to Sturgis!
Randy & Evelyn (Rem & Reverse) are all packed up and ready to head home.

VROC Breakfast of Champions.

Sandy, Mal, Yvette, and Skid.  Catching up on the morning computing

Bubbles and Gambler, going to be the close to the last couple to leave WWR5

Kim, Trouble, Zmean1, Jamey T., Piper and Badger.  The last Breakfast.

Yvette, Piper, Mal, ready to leave, with Skid looking on

Melanie, Gambler, Skid, Sandy, Bubbles and Jamey T.

After Deadwood, we climbed up to Lead to pick up the Skid RV.  Loaded up his Wing, and headed up...and down....Hwy 85 into Wyoming.  Some beautiful country.

The weather started looking threatening the farther South we went.  By the time we got onto I-25, we could see storm cells setting up.

In some places it was dark enough to turn the lights on, but now rain yet.

Then it hit!  So much for the clean vehicles we left in this morning.

The weather was fine by the time we got to the Flying J in Cheyenne, WY.  We got a nice quite spot in the parking lot.

Many of the buildings in down town were built in the 1800's

 Typical Tourists

Most of the downtown is restored nicely.

Built as a hotel, bar, restaurant, and Bordello in 1882, it did a booming business.  There were underground tunnels from this building to the Capitol Building a couple blocks away.  The State congressmen could use the tunnels to visit the ladies and no one would see them.  Not much has changed.

We know that a lot of cites have a theme the local artists use to decorate the streets.  Usually they are animals, but here it's Cowboy Boots.

Some local color out enjoying the small festival in the park.  It's Pepper eating time!  They are having a Chili contest and live music

The band is just getting set up.  I'm sure it will be some hard rock music (yeah, right)

Couple of ladies on their Harley's with an escort.

One of the booths that is in the contest

The old railroad station is now a museum

 Wild Horse!

 Another old and famous building

If Sandy bought these,  would she be a "cow girl"?

Wrangler's has been a retail clothing store since 1943.  Several rooms just full of nice clothes, hats, boots, and pretty things.
We have a few VROC members that could fit into these pants!

With 3 rooms full of hats, we decided that if Jim & Katie was with us, we'd have to set up camp  outside and wait a couple of days while they tried them all on :-)

Another room with different kinds of hats.

WOW! Perfect footware for the Nomad Riders in the club!

 Still more hats!

Lots of "frilly" stuff.  Not sure if the "real" cowgirls wear these clothes

The Wrangler from a different angle

1882 and it's still in business

The Square where the Chili contest is going on

Back at the Flying J. We're all settled in for the night.  Since they were taken over by Pilot, the Flying J's are very different than in the "old days".  But this one feels like home, I've stayed here several times over the years.
