Hackberry ride May 6, 2021

The coffee corner in the Store.  A good selection of Keurig pods, but no decaf.  "Buck a Cup"  is a fair price.  You serve yourself.

                                            The Greeter of the day.

                                                        Stuff for sale

The "Girls", Still waiting for Elvis.

For our friends in the Far North

Charlie has lived here for many years.  I don't know exactly how long.  A very photogenic Kitty, and seems to like everyone.

A few bullet holes from years on Route 66

                                                        Yes, I do!
                                                        Flathead Ford

'48 or '49 Ford pickup.  I learned to drive in one just like this.  And Crashed it when I was 16 years old.

Still runs, but they don't use it any more.

The town of Hackberry is pretty much deserted.  It was across the highway from here.  Used to be a wild place.  A Trail Head for loading Cattle on the Railroad, and a Saturday night destination for the local Cowboys.  Mostly Bars and Bordellos.  The foundations are still in place, and some old buildings still standing.

This old Model A never made it to California.

This used to be a Greyhound Bus stop.  But, since I-40 bypassed Hackberry in the early 1960's, there probably hasn't been a commercial bus go by.

There are 2 gas islands.  These pumps don't get photographed as often as the other ones.

On the way home, I pulled into the entrance to Valley Vista.  A small golf community East of Kingman.  I heard there was a new Pizza place there.  And,  here it is.  It was too early for them to be open, but now I know where it is.

Last comment.  I didn't take a picture, but a Japanese gentleman pulled in to the Hackberry Store just as I was leaving.  Very slight build, probably early 40's,  Dressed in very expensive riding gear.  ATGATT.  He flew to Los Angeles, bought a small Harley Sportster, and some luggage.  He's on his way to Chicago, and the Eastern end of Route 66.  Taking a small detour to visit the Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee, WI.  Very broken English, but no real communication problem.   A fun unexpected visit.  You never know who you'll meet in Hackberry....
