April 4, Texas ride

We had a rather distinctive waiter in Chuy's for lunch

On Hwy 90, miles from anything, is this Art Form.  It's filled with women's shoes.  Someone recently vandalized it with paint.  They also cut up the awnings.

Part of a mural in Alpine

Some of the buildings in Alpine had very nice painting on them

This is the home of Sul Ross State Universary.  A very neat little City.

Very cool old fire truck

Thanks Tony D.!

Parking lot of a large church in Alpine

Breakfast and Happy hour room in the Holliday Inn.  We paid enough, so Lanny is taking advantage of the "freebees" :-)

A nice comfortable room.  Lanny gets the desk since he's old, I have to struggle with this chair.

The was leaving Deming, NM this morning. It was 37 degrees!!!!!  We had planned to leave here and to to Cloudcroft and East to Hobbs and stop in Lamesa, TX. But...23 degrees was the current temperature up there, so we decided to head South.

This is an abandoned Truck Stop about 30 miles East of El Paso.  Lanny heard a rumbling noise so we stopped to check tires. Everything seemed all right.  80 mph Speed limit out here, so it's nice to know your tires are good.

Stopped for gas in Sierra Blanca, TX.  The little town is pretty much closed up

Not too many years ago, this was an interesting little town

Old Railroad Station

This is the BEST Cafe!

At least it says it is

Maybe I could have come here to get the warranty work done on this laptop instead of going all the way to Yuma!

Some things are still open

Chuy's is a land mark in Van Horn, TX.  Been here a long time.  I think it relies more on tradition than the food quality. But, it was all right, and a fun place to stop

Downtown Van Horn

Lanny checking out the parking lot

A Texas cactus

The Courtesy Van hasn't been used for awhile

John Madden stops here when ever he can.  He discovered it once traveling through and wanted someplace to watch a game.  He liked the food, has a Number 10 here every year when he returns.

Highway 90.  Some young people were on their way to the city of Marfa, and stopped to look at the "Art Form" along the Hwy.

Interesting, but we never did find out why it's there

Shoes and handbags inside.  For no particular reason.  It's not a store.

Lanny thought these were Texas Blue Bonnets. Well...they were blue. But not the right kind on flower.  They are pretty anyway

Lanny stopping to check out the "not Blue Bonnets"

They are pretty and the add some color to a mostly brown landscape

Still in business. This is in Marfar

Lots of historical building in Marfa

Flags over the City Hall

Not sure what this building is

A National Historical Site

We rode around town a while, lots to see here

Nice Bank

Not sure if this is factual, I always thought St. Augestine, FL was the oldest city.

Too bad Biglefti doesn't like Asian food

Love the colorful Mural

A good community calendar

White Lightnin'

And Big Red

Dan Blocker and several other famous people attended Universary here in Alpine

The Gateway to the Big Bend Country

Part of the Mural

A Texas Mission

Cows

We did have some time, so took too many pictures

Guess we've seen enough of this street

Movie time?

City Clock

Busy town

Most of the Motels in town are full.  We tried 4 before we could find a room with 2 beds available. A little on the expensive side, but had to settle for a new Holliday Inn Express. Very nice motel

Biker hangout.  We didn't hang, just took a picture

Puttin' out old Flames... funny.

Not a common name.  I had an Aunt named Hildreth.

By the RR tracks

Cafe.  Open for business

This may be a good one

Sweets for your Sweet!

Never realized Alpine was so "Artsy Craftsy"

Lanny doing a tight U-Turn in the middle of the street. Had to get back for a picture

Nice church

House on a hill

I want to sing and dance!

A stop at AutoZone, $17 bucks, and about 5 minutes work and both lights were working.  This one just burned out this afternoon

Sull Ross Campus up there on the hill
