Skull Valley 17 October 12

We left at 7 AM.  Beautiful morning!  This is heading South on Hwy 93, on the way to Wikiup, AZ

Stopped to take this picture for Craig Scott.  He's  remember this spot.  We went on toward Prescott from here.

Short rest stop. Those Harley's love rolling in the gravel :-)

Passed hundreds of these old Sentinals.  Snapped this on the fly.

Sweepers, and some tight canyon curves.  Been over this road several times, but always think of riding with Jack Foree, Tony D. and some others.  I was on The Red and Black TC Classic, that he'd lowered some.  I just about drug the bottom off keeping up with Jack and Tony :-)  Good times.

Farming and Ranching country.  We passed a lot of them in the Kirkland and Skull Valley's.

Steak and Lobster for $2.50!  Sounds like a deal to me!

The Social Center of the Kirkland Valley.  it's still open for business

Wouldn't mind coming back another time of lunch here.  But, also saw an interesting little Cafe in Skull Valley I'd like to try first

Some info on the business above

Rocks and vegetation, and a hitchin' post

Garage and gas station, still in operation.  And, these are working pumps!

We made this same ride on Halloween Day, last year. There were a bunch of the local school kids trick or treating at this store.

Had the Harley all ready packed and ready to go last night.  This morning, had a change of mind, and took the Half-a-Busa.  Don't really know why, but sure enjoyed the ride today.

Contented Cows.   Nice and plump too.

This old stove keeps the Skull Valley Store cozy on cold winter nights..like when it gets down into the 40's.

Continous operation since 1916.  Still sell fresh and frozen local Beef and Lamb, and they do stock some groceries.  Mostly gift items and local craft things now.

This butcher block is still being used to cut our meat to order.

Was a working Post Office up until a few years ago.  The Window and boxes are original.

My favorite kind of place.  Even the bathroom was spotless clean and had sort of a "homey" feel.

The Skull Valley Ice Cream Social was last weekend.  They had these hats and shirts made up for it. Will probably take a year to sell them. :-)

A lot of Arizona pick-up trucks have large wheels and high lift kits.  This makes it easier to get the mail.  And when the snow is 12 feet deep, the mail man doesn't have to dig out the lower box.

Entering Bagdad.  A few miles East of Skull Valley, about half way to Prescott, there was extensive road constructiion.  Mud, gravel, and long waits. So, we turned around and came back here for lunch
Bagdad is a Company Town. The Copper mine here owns most of the land, it's on their claim.  We enjoy the Bagdad Diner.

Ed told the waitress, "I'll just have a plain hamberger with fries". This is what he got.

Carl asked for a Chili Burger with curley fries.  This baby was HUGE!  That's an oversized plate.  Half pound of meat and all the trimmings.

My very fresh and tasty Chef Salad.  There was a LOT of meat hidden there too.  I did splurge and have the good dressing.  Usually I don't.

We got there just before noon.  By the time we left, the place was packed.  Highly enjoyable.  I think Lanny will remember this place.  He ate a Miner's breakfast when we were here last :-)
Was a perfect day!  This is the Diner, it's about 90 miles from Kingman.  From here, we gassed up in Wikiup and blasted on home.  Pat and I will leave in a few minutes on the Harley to meet some other riders out in Golden Valley for an evening snack.
