Arrived Taos

Down the street from our motel in Santa Fe.  Served with Pazole and a Sopapilla.  New Mexican food at it's best.

On Route 66 in Santa Fe

Looks like Old Mexico

This is the oldest house in the USA. Original foundation and adobe.  But obviously some up grades.

1646. Yes,,old

We were too early to get inside.  But, it's one of the oldest churches in Santa Fe

Santa Fe is very interesting.  Many of these old looking adobes are the addresses for some of the best (and most expensive) Southwestern Art that is available anywhere.

Although not in real good condition, there are still parking meters around the Plaza area. 6 minutes for a nickle.

Always Festivals and other attractions are going on.  We were here between 7 and 8 AM.  As the morning went on, there there more and more people and activities getting ready for the day

The sculptured lady has a $32,000 price tag

Nice bear

Later in the day this Square will be full of people doing fun things

Native Americans laying out their items they will be selling today

That Five & Dime store is famous for it's Frito Pies.

I'd like to live in that roof top apartment!

All around the Plaza you can find food, clothing, and all sorts of very nice things

Another church near the Plaza

I had been in this Restaurant before with our friends Preston & Karen.  Remembered how good the Crepes were.

So we had to go in

Critter counter.   There were bringing out more while we were there

So many good things.

The crepes are tender and hot.  I chose the apricot and cheese filling.  Lanny with with the fresh Raspberries

Remember the world before smart phones?

Not a cheap breakfast, but I'll go back again someday.  It was wonderful.

Health Food

Only in tourist areas.  Very seldom do you see camera shops anymore

Lucchese doesn't open until 10 AM.  I would have gone in and drooled. Boots and western clothes

Vendors beginning to get set up

This was one of the highlights of the day

The mysterious stairway.  We learned it's history.  Very interesting if you want to Google it.

Notice there is no center supports.  Still baffles engineers.

Too full to take advantage of this cart, but was tempted

Would like to try one of their breakfast burritos!!

We were here for a couple of hours.  It's 10 AM.  Things are just getting started and shops are opening, but we have miles to make. Burning daylight! So, we're off.

We saw this fire that appeared to have just started. We were going to see a Falls or something Lanny was interested in about 6 miles up a small road. We got there and the gate across the road was locked.

On the way back, the fire had grown, and there were people out fighting it.

We saw some high flames, but didn't get them in the picture.

Paramedics were there too (of course)
Entry to the large church and complex to the very famous church where there is an annual pilgrimage.  Some crawl for long distances on their knees.

Interesting

Crystal clear water

This is June 20, 2016.  Yesterday was the last day that Leona's was open for food.  From now on it will be another gift shop and Catholic book store here.  There are several others here on the property.

Welcome Center and more shops

We honored the requests to not take pictures inside any of the worship areas or stores.

There were several cut-outs so you can see the original adobe of the buildings.

A tourist

Next door to the Motel/Resort we're in here in Taos.  We didn't eat here.  Like the "Dog friendly" atmosphere. They have stainless steel bowls of cool water on the patio for your pets.

Inside The Gorge.  Waiting for seating.  VROC peopole

Sandy, Susan and Romy.  And Bridgette in the background

Ended up a table for 18.  Jim Siegelaar was the last to ride in.  He found us.

Joe and Susan are responsible for this "get-together". And a fine job they are doing. Nice shirt, Joe!

Lanny, Ray, Jerry (Slammer), Richard, Randy and Cheryl.

Since Jimmy Sigelaar came in late, we made up a nice sandwich for him from some left overs.  He turned it down :-(

Lanny took this with 30x zoom.  He told me there was deer down there.  I thought they were rocks.  Turns out they are Elk.

Large volcano crater

Almost made this trip in the pick up instead of riding.  But, it's been a perfect trip so far.  Glad I'm riding.

These last two were when we were by the Grass fire.  Lanny rode farther up the road to get a better look.  I stopped, knowing he'd be right back :-)

Love all the pictures, Sherm. The bunny is great. I've always wanted to see the miracle staircase. Wish I was there. Thank you for the highlights. Years ago, I landed in a lady's yard on Kit Carson Rd, Taos, NM and the bike got broken, she invited me to stay the night in her home, she was my angel that night. I hope she is doing well. Good memories.
