Sept 22 & 23

Slammer entering Jungle Jim's, our Saturday morning breakfast place.

Good food, prices were reasonable, and good people to share with

Rainman with his Safari hat. Six Pack Jack, Niclels, and Yvette.  Talon picked this place, it was a good one.

Yvette, Wrongturn and KT.  Love the hat

Grandfather Slammer giving Katie some sage advice :-)

Won't be long, and I'll be seeing this couple every day!  Best neighbors we've ever had!

cool banner

Picked up a 17 pound Virginia burlap ham to take home.

I asked it it would spoil on the way home in a car.  They told me it should be fine for at least 10 years.  So, I assume it's still all right.  Very cool store.  On our ride through Surry, we passed the place that processes the hams.  Small family business that has been in business  for over a hundred years

Mark rode his bike up into the truck just like he knew what he was doing!

I remember when we used to RIDE to rallies!

Lots of help if we need it, but I think most of us like to do the loading and tying down ourselves.  A lot at stake, and too many cooks can spoil the soup :-)  But, it's nice to have help when you need it.

Open and enclosed, and many different styles of trailers

LOOKING OUT OUR MOTEL DOOR.   THIS STORM DOOR WAS SORT OF A PAIN, BUT IT WAS FUNCTIONAL, AND LOOKED COOL

ANOTHER NICE THING ABOUT SHARING WITH SKID AND SANDY---SHE IS VERY ORGANIZED.  HERE IS ALL THEIR STUFF ALL READY TO PUT INTO THE TRUCK AND TRAILER.  WE'RE GETTING READY TO PACK UP

THAT DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE

This Vulcan is disguised to look like a Harley

Cheap B went to the darkside.  If he had a stock tire, it probably wouldn't have bent his tail gate (joking of course)

If I had a ramp like that, gas mileage would have been even worse than it was yesterday.  Over 800 miles with a very strong head wind across Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and into Texas.  Went from the high 20's down to 20 mpg in the Toyota pickup.  A ramp like this can work like a sail at 75 mph

Some "Ladies of VROC"

Good thing there was plenty of parking at the Kaw Pasture. There was over a dozen trailers there

Talon did a good job of hanging banners.  I think there were 3 of these large ones

Skids nice new trailer.  He hauled both his and Lucky Al's Gold Wing in to from Eureka Springs to the WWR6 in Williamsburg.  After redistributing the weight a couple of times, it towed perfect.

Wings, Harleys, and even a few Vulcan's made it to the rally.      Will work on the rest later, really need to get some sleep....a long day again tomorrow

Skid, Slammer, Stonewall, Wanda, Sandy and Mark (Cheap B)

Most of the trailer people were getting loaded up before the Group Dinner on Saturday night

This trailer looks like it's had a hard life, but still does the job.

Malachi's trailer usually does double duty, but not this trip.

Bikes, cars and truck roll in to "Shorty's for the final dinner of the rally

Strange.  A line of Vulcans at the Vulcan rally!

There were several that didn't make it to the Group Picture. Some had already left, some had already eaten and didn't want to go again, some were pretty much "rallied out" and just wanted to rest up for the trip home in the morning.  They missed a lot of fun at the "Wrap Up.  One of the Cafe Waitresses took this picture with my camera

Going inside for the festivities

Skid getting material for his blog. There were more cameras and camera phones in action during this rally than I've ever seen.  It's easy to post phone shots on Face Book, and several others are doing blogs.  Gives those that can't be there a good idea of what goes on.

That's Judge there in the skull cap.  It was good to see him again.

Shorty's served us all in record time, and the food was good

His distinguished white hair makes Toj east to pick out in a crowd.

Talon really put a lot of homework into the organization of WWR6.  It paid off, in that everything went smoothly

Wild Rose and her sister Fran rode a long way to get here. Fran has only been riding a year or so, and does real well.

Menu decisions

I think this may have been the first time I met Gateway...another face to put with a name now :-)

Had met "Dufu" briefly at the Kentucky Rally, but now I know both him and his wife better.

Slammer's turn to play Dualing Cameras

Trying to get a picture of all the tables. Hope I didn't leave anyone out

More people

Was nice that Slammer and Toby brought their "Main Squeezes" with them.  Added some class to the rally.

ROK sent lot of nice items for the drawing.   Talon gave a large pile of the green microfiber clothes to Shorty, the owner of the restaurant, to hand out to each person or couple as they came in the door. Very nice touch to get us started.

Very fast and friendly service. Hope everyone left a good tip.

Skid ordered a half pound, open face Grease Burger covered with cheese, potatoes, Onions and gravy.  He didn't sleep well Saturday night...Duah.....

Two excellent cooks moving light lightening in the kitchen

Badger helped Talon with the drawing. Of course he had to model most of the items :-)

Sandy REALLY wanted one of these caps...and she got one!

Skid and Sandy did real well.  They got the grand ROK prize of a remote controlled car, as well as several other goodies

Stonewall won the waitress

Talon surprised me with some kind words and a Special shirt!!  Thanks a whole bunch!!!

Last morning in the room.  Won't see this familiar face until next year sometime

Crossed under the  Blue Ridge Parkway a few times today.  My pictures got all messed up, so those prior to this, and the rest of this day, are all out of order.  It was a long way home, but worth it to have been a part of WWR6

Left in a drizzling rain, but now beautiful.  The leaves are starting to turn

Saw several signs pointing to Stuarts Draft. I think that's where they make the Root Beer that's sold in Cracker Barrels.

Moving along.  Back in 1995 Pat and I were working a Gold Wing Rally in Roanoke.  It was where I had my first minor heart attack.  We drove to Nashville and had an angioplasty done. Worked for awhile.

Another pass under the Blue Ridge Parkway. They are working on this bridge

Another couple of weeks and the hillside will be glowing

Pretty trees

Large Cross.  But, after seeing the one in Groom, Texas, and the Christ of the Ozarks in Eureka Springs, this one is a baby :-)

Kudzu!

In Tennessee now.  All these places bring back special memories from the days on the road as rally vendors

Nashville skyline

Motel about 40 miles East of Jackson, TN. My door opened out  on to this porch next to a corn field that has been harvested.  Nice place, but very tired.

James (Talon)  The Man of the Hour!  He did a great job providing a good time for everyone that attended the rally.  Motel, Rides, Food arrangements, and entertainment was all thought out.  Because it all works, it took some professional planning. Thanks,  James.
Slammer, Sandy and Sherm.  Victory Center in Yorktown

Skid and Sandy, Slammer.  We spent a couple hours here on Saturday. Also visited the US Coast Guard retail store on Base. A good day.

Flags of the 13 Colonies

This is where Slammer lived as a boy

These volunteers from the bystanders were instructed on how to load and fire the canon and a rocket launcher.

Few seconds after the shot.  First picture all blurred because I jumped :-)   Skid got a better picture.

All the displays and the explanations were well interesting

Learned all about feeding the troops.  Lots of things you never really think about, but very interesting historical information.  We all enjoyed the lessons.

Visiting with George Washington.  Skid is pointing out some mistakes he's made on a spread sheet.

Time well spent.  Having good friends to share the experience with made it even better

One of the "Information Ladies".  She looks a little like our friend Ruth.

Dodging Thunder Storms.  Some I didn't dodge so well, had rain on and off until I got to New Mexico and some decent weather

Large Church along the road in Oklahoma

One of my favorite store.   The original Sheplers.  I stopped to buy a couple pair of smaller pants, seems like I've lost my rear end :-)  I was shocked at the prices, haven't shopped anywhere except Ross Dress for Less or Thrift stores for a long time.  I bought some anyway, just for old times sake.

Route 66 in McLean, Texas

Crossing over the Mississippi.  Between Tennessee and Arkansas
