What a way to start the day! Stepped out of the room, and there is Stonewall and Bassman...Good lookin' couple of vroc members! |
Parking lot is a LOT quieter than it was last night! |
Brad picked up a traveler. We're on the "Five and Dime" ride. Highway 5 and 10, a couple others, and a Ferry ride to end it all. GREAT ride with some fine people. |
Going to post a lot of sort of group pictures. Hope to get everyone in the blog, but if I overlook anyone, I'm very sorry. Will try to do better tomorrow :-) |
About 15 of these on the ride, and 5 or 6 other brands too |
OK, I'm through with names for a while. Hope you can see yourselves. Trying to get these shots posted before the evening ones are taken |
Very few business places on the Colony Trail. This is the Exxon station where we stopped for gas, coffee and rest rooms. |
Southern Draw and Chuckster discussing a part or something :-) |
Mexicans? Uhhh oh. I mean Canadians! I knew they were from somewhere across a border :-) Gary, Julie and Trucker. Good people, all......................... |
Getting lined up for the Ferry Boat. I'll be posting a lot of these, they look similar, but are different |
Yes, you ARE in the blog this time :-) |
Arrived at the dock just as our boat was landing. Only took a few minutes for the cars to get off so we could start loading. |
The ride was free, compliments of the Virginia tax payers and the highway system |
I think Skid was complimenting Wild Rose on how well her sister, who is a relatively new rider is doing today. Everyone did a fine job of doing a group ride. |
The green bike goes to the back, so we can see if everyone is there :-) Beautiful motorcycle! |
Still waiting for the Ferry to unload and prepare for us |
The last of the cars leaving the ferry, we're on and ready |
The people in the pickup ahead up us, let us some of the guys get into the bed and take pictures of the whole group. It was too high for my little short legs to jump up there! |
In case you hadn't noticed, Brian is about 6'6" tall. at least. Slammer I'm sure will make a comment about his qualifications to get into the Coast Guard :-) |
Julie takes about as many pictures as I do! |
We're rolling on board. The famous Jamestown Ferry! |
Snapped this over my head as we were on the boarding ramp |
The weather was flat calm. No one got seasick |
We're on the boat now. Some of you blog lookers are probably thinking this is too many pictures, but for those that were there, I know you'll like to remember the trip |
No thought of having to secure the bikes. Just like parking at walmart. No motion to worry about |
I'm noticing it sure makes a difference using the wider angle. I usually zoom in for more detail. but wanted to get the whole effect |
Underway! Set the Special Sea Detail. |
Basking in the sunshine. It finally warmed up to about 75 degrees |
Can't remember how long the ride was, Maybe 15 minutes? or a little longer |
Everyone was enjoying it, so the time passed quickly |
The Ferry driver was very good. When we landed, we didn't even fell the vessel touch the docking area |
I counted 3 very similar boats. We rode the Surry. |
The crew in the yellow safety clothes were very friendly and efficient |
I think we've pretty much narrowed it down. Carolyn's nic will be Southern Charm :-) |
Julie could get run over! But she make it back on the bike all right |
Scene's like this are very familiar to this old Sailor |
Seagulls hoping for something to eat. The one on the tall piling only has one leg! |
Looks like a loon or a brown Cormorant, but here in the Far East, I don't know what they are called |
The Garmin has us with Blue all around..but there is a line for the Ferry Route. Cool! |
About ready to arrive in Jamestown |
Love that Flag |
We're all loaded up and ready to go ashore. That's Trucker in my rear view mirror |
This is what the people saw when they landed here in 1607. Except for the cell phone towers |
Cow |
Sign. William & Mary has a HUGE campus! It's been here since 1663 or 65, can't remember, but one of those years |
You could spend days here walking the streets. If you read all the signs, and visited all the shops, museums, and restaurants, it would take a LONG time to see it all |
Clean and well taken care. This really is a National Treasure |
Been here before, but things change. More pavement than last time, and more stores |
OK, guess it was 1693. |
Most of the old houses and buildings have the history of them posted so you can read it. There are both wood and brick buildings |
A pretty slow day. Seems like everything is open, but not too many people |
I'll only post a sampling of the buildings. There are dozens of them, all worthy of a picture |
Upscale shops |
Would be hard to decide where, if you wanted to eat, to fine a place.... |
They say they are the original "Death by Chocolate" place, but don't know how they could prove it :-) |
Pleasant place |
Stopped here on the way back for a cup of coffee |
An active tailor shop |
There is more livestock in the area than I expected |
Nice house too |
Don't give up, I'm about through with the house pictures |
Last house shot |
OK, one more house |
My treat for the day. Starbucks house coffee. Asked a passing couple if he would take the picture. He did. |
Perfect day for outside dining |
When I saw this sign, I know I was getting close to the bike |
Some of the shopping areas go back several blocks, to more, and more, and more........... |
Guess they don't want you dumping your crab shells into the storm drains |
Williamsburg Inn. Looks like a nice place for a vroc rally! That's it for the morning and afternoon. The evening will follow later. |
Bubba's Chicken and Thangs! Sandy took this from the bike, I lifted it from Skid's blog :-) One of the FEW eating establishments we passed on the ride this morning. |
Rainman! |
Georgia Crew |
Jim and Katie made a last minute decision to come to the rally. They are just now riding in after 8.5 hours on the bike today |
The games have begun |
The cheering section is small, but will get bigger as the night goes on |
Kate hasn't even put her bag down, and Sandy is filling her in! :-) |
Seems like we've seen Jim and Katie just a couple of nights ago! My, how time flies! |
Helen will be jealous of this Route 66 patch on the Nomad....Jim and KT will know what this means :-) |
30's, 40's and 50's models, a coupe of early 60's too. It would be hard to choose a favorite |
This is a real beauty. Most of the paint and upholstery just makes your eyes sore, they are so pretty |
This doesn't count as a car picture |
Took this one for Pat. A Packard Patrician. I remember those from the 50's. |
Also took this one for Pat. She and this car have something in common |
Evening Sky at the Kaw Pasture |
Wonder if this place would be in our traveling budget........ |
My good friend Jerry (Slammer)!! Skid, Nickels, and Julie. There are several groups scattered around the Kaw Pasture visiting after dinner |
Wild Rose and Toj. If the pictures seem a little blurred, it's from the smoke of the fire |
Skid and Nickels |
Flash wasn't working on the Lumix, so got out the back up little Canon. Harder to use, but better flash |
Smoke gets in your eyes......... |
Still 2 more days and nights to go! We'll all be tired and happy when it over. |
Just getting "people" shots |
Sandy visiting with Fran. Wild Roses sister. She did a good job of riding with the group today. |
Joe "Dufu". Haven't seen him since Kentucky. It was his employee that had the motorcycle wreck in Yuma a few weeks ago. |
Jasmine, Mrs. Dufu talking with Julie |
Slammer and Copperhead |
Skid inspecting his vest |
Jasmine, Gary and Tim |
