Morning Ride

t
Lots of various kinds of lettuce fields, in different stages of growing.  Early morning on the way to San Luis.  I'm following the Border South.  In this area, it runs North and South, following the Colorado River.

Everyone is familiar with Iceberg lettuce, but it's just one of MANY varieties of green leaves that's grown down here.

Cabbage is another crop here.  Yuma County grows a huge percentage of the Nation's lettuce and related products during the Winter months.

Love Monday's.  Circle K has Maniac Monday, 24 ounce coffee products for .99.  And now, in Christmas Cups. :-)

Close to the Border, this is a salvage yard for the farmers.

Morning and evenings this is a busy place.  The buses hauling field workers in from Mexico stop here so they can buy beer by the quart, and other junk food.  But, they do sell very good taco, tamales, and Burritos.

The farm boys come here for their dates.

Someone took a shot at this piggy.  He's still standing.

Arizona Evergreens

Changes.  When we first started coming to Yuma, there was a lot of vegetation around this tree.  Very enclosed.  A fire pit, and several old car seats and old chairs were there for field workers, and visitors from Mexico.  Very close to the Border here.  Been within a few yards of it all morning.

Harvesting Lettuce.  Goes from the field to sorted boxes, to trucks, and right out to buyers.

Stopped in Gadsden to say hello to Charlie.

Felt bad that I didn't bring him a carrot or apple.  Will bring 2 next time.  Sorry, Charlie.

Gallon jug of wine between Checkers in the San Luis Walmart.  I asked if it was there for a little "pick me up" when they felt like it. No one spoke enough English to understand what I was saying.  And, I was on the US side of San Luis.

I wonder if this was where Gadsden lived when he purchased most of Southern Arizona for the United States.....

Low bush Cotton.  Another important crop here in the Valley.  That's Quartz Peak in the background.  In Picacho State Recreation Area on the Colorado River in California.  35-40 miles   from where I took this picture.
