Slab City and a Jam March 13, 14

Before this bridge over he Colorado River was in place, that was a little dirt street that was named Prison Hill Road.  Back in the 1930's and 40's, Pat's Dad lived on that road, and had a piano tuning and repair business.  He also worked on Player Pianos.

Desert Buttercups?

Tuesday night Jam at "Sam's Place"

Singing and playing in Sam & Bonnie's Arizona room

Geri plays a Sax. This little guy in front of here plays a mean "Yakkity Sax"
Salvation Mountain.  We were disappointed to learn that Leonard Wright, the builder of this wonderful place, is now in a Rest Home in San Diego.  He spent almost 30 years of his life living and working here.  He had a vision, and made it happen.

Dale with Pat and Ev.

An old trailer someone gave to Leonard.  He never lived in it, preferring an  old Fire Department truck to make his home. This was mostly used for storage.  It won't be long before the valuables are all gone, and the vandals will ruin these tings.

Climbing the Yellow Brick Road to the top

About half way up, the wind is picking up.

Dale stayed up longer than the ladies.

They made it to the top.  This is zoomed up 16 times.

Leonard left some books in a trailer he didn't use.  There is no caretaker,or anyone we saw that provided any sort of security.  It's a shame, but I have a feeling it won't look like this next year

This was probably a nice trailer many years ago.  Pretty beat up now

Dale spent a lot of time at the top.  He said he was contemplating, but I think partly is was to get his wind back for the decent. :-)
One of many "Art Cars" at Slab City

A local resident sits on here front steps.  Nice pickup!

Flat Stanley was hanging out in a shoe tree.

Flat Stanley went with us today.  He found the Welcome center.

I used discretion in not taking pictures of some of the posters on the walls in here.  It was pretty unusual.

F
Stanley is a happy boy!

Nearest town is Niland.  This old building is empty, the city is almost a ghost town.

A farm house.  Lots of yard chickens, an old dog and a goat that wanted up to come feed him

This old yellow Lab is suppose to be a guard dog, but she would probably lick you to death instead of chewing a let off.

Unless the Shotgun is more threatening than the Dog, we aren't worried much.

The goat thought we may be bringing some food.  He was pretty friendly.  We don't know these people, but the sign was a challenge. :-)

Made a mistake and went to a different place than I had in mind.  It worked out anyway.

Don't forget you can click on a picture to make it larger.

Our waitress was fun and friendly.  As was the boss lady.  Food was sort of average, but not real expensive.  We'd all go back again.
