Petroglyph Ride

During breakfast we visited with this bicycle rider.  He recently toured New Zealand and Vietnam.  A seasoned rider!

Katie surprised us with Saguaro pins.  For our AZ vroc riders.  We're working on a name :-)

Susan is cautious about snakes.  Badger is looking for one.

Randy Ahnert, a historian and author was also visiting the Painted Rocks today. He gave us some excellent information about the area, and history of the Butterfield Trail, and also some good information on the Oatman Massacre.  It was a real treat listing to this gentleman!

Katie collects heart shaped rocks.  She found the beauty on the trail today

The gift shop in Dateland has some nice things

Having Date Shakes at the Dateland gas station/gift shop/sandwich and ice cream store.  It's been in the low to mid 70's with some cloud cover all day.  Perfect riding temp for some.  I prefer about 10 degrees warmer :-)

ll
Susan at the Whistle Stop.  Good food with reasonable prices.  Joe and Susan will be leaving later in the week, this will be our last adventure until we meet again!

We had a very pleasant ride today.  240 some miles round trip

The painted rocks are loaded with Petroglyphs

No one knows for sure what the figures mean.  There are different styles for time periodsd caption

A nice fat lizard getting some sun.

Jerry Ahnert signing his book.  He just happened to have a few copies in his back pack.  This was the highlight of the day.

It's Springtime, and the desert is coming alive.  Tiny flowers

This may have been a target.  Stand back 20 yards, lock and load your bow, and let the arrow fly!

Tiny desert Daisys

We walked all the way around this rock hill.

A fat little Fishhook Cactus

Can't resist these tiny flowers

Jerry carries lots of research information and old diaries.  He likes to put himself in the exact places of the writers..to think and contemplate.  It helps him remember statistics and stories that he uses in his lectures.  He's very good at what he does.

Back in our park. These two Swiss rigs just came in. The bike is a BMW.  Don't know anything about them yet, but looks interesting!
