Dec 7, 2015

Jacki and George taking a break after helping Don assemble a couple of new chairs he purchased.

Our Beach.  Every year it's a little different.  Pat is tired of it and wants to do something else, but....I think we'll just tune this up and leave it for at least another year.

First night of the Jazz Season at the Mall.  We usually go here on Thursday evenings.

Basement of a Methodist church.  They had over 300 small Nativity scenes.  Most of the figures are hand made.

Inside a Strawberry?

Most had a story with them, some very old.

Soup, Sandwiches and pastries were for sale.  Also a nice gift shop was set up. This is an annual fund raiser for some local charity.  We'll go again next year if we remember it:-)

Monkee Bread.  Very tasty!

Lynne at the Winterhaven Friday night Sing.

Breakfast at Molca's Tacos in Algodones, Mexico
Joyce, a High School friend that lives here in Yuma, and Pat.  A fun night at the Races! Dale and Linda with with us, but managed to stay out of the pictures :-)

Entrance to the Track.  The Speedway is down below this bluff, about 7 miles South of Yuma.

The next 2 pictures kind of ran together, so can't add captions. First is a place to stand for a Selfie (don't hold your breath waiting of that!)
The other one is of an Indian Fry Bread meal one of the Track Vendors was selling.

The Cocopah Speedway is the property of this Tribe.

Because of the late night traffic, we took the RV and spent the night.  This is Sunday morning at the Casino. We were going to have their Buffet, but the waiting line was 30 minutes or more, so we didn't stay.

December 7th.  This is the Kool Korner, site of Mary's Store and various other residences.  Out in a field of Cabbage

It used to be a very rough place, but has been closed for a long time

Not sure how long the Store has been out of business..several years anyway.

Memorial to a rider that was killed here.

Interesting entry way

Antiques all over the property

The outside sitting room

Nice old tractor.  I imagine it wouldn't take too much to get this one running.

Another ride to "The Swastika Bridge".   Built in 1907 by the US Reclamation Service.  Built about the same time as Laguna Dam, the first flood control dam on the Colorado River.  It's only a few hundred yards between the two of them.  Swastikas were a symbol of Well Being, and found in Petroglyphs in the South West.  It was the symbol of the US Reclamation service and for awhile the symbol of the AZ Highway Service.  When Hitler started using it in the 40's, it was dropped here in the US.  There are many tall tales about this bridge.  You can google it if interested.

Over a hundred years old now

I've ridden several bikes across it, but one end has a cyclone fence now, and the end by my bike has a high berm with big rocks.  Didn't want to bang up the little Honda, so parked it there.

Redd rode with with me on his mighty TW200, the T-Dub.

This area is called Betty's Kitchen.  Used to be bars and a couple restaurants here back in the 50's and 60's, A flood took them out.  Now it's a picnic area. Good Catfishing area too.

The old bridge is hard to see from the road, you sort of have to know where it is to find it.

Eagle's nest?  Or, maybe a large Humming Bird's.

Lots of mud hens (Coots) here on the back water of the Colorado River.

As Winter goes on, this place can get pretty busy.

I lost track of how many of my bikes have had a VROC plate. Probably could go back through some of the old blogs and figure it out :-)
Sunset over Yuma a couple nights ago.

Sold this Harley Superglide today.  Now down to 4 bikes, none for sale. :-)
