Day 1 Solvang

Cat makes wonderful Cobblers! And, being the exceptional Hostess and  Cook, she used Splenda.  Except for the real sugar sprinkles on top.

VROC fire pit.  Lime tree, Orange, and Persimmon trees. The back wall is succulent Honeysuckle

James throwing meat on the grill

Can, Sue, and Shannon.  Sunny visit.

Boomer and Wild Rose

Ray and James

Cat Hair

Either Shannon is trying out for a roll as Marie Lavoux, or, she wants her own motorcycle!

That is a large pot.  There is probably a gallon of Sausage gravy in there.

After spending all day on planes and airports, then waiting up until 2 AM for the Boomers, James was a little tired. But it didn't effect his grilling abilities.

The ladies wanted to help, but Cat and Jim had everything under control

The appetizer course...this was the start of a wonderful meal

It was a real sacrifice, but I had to have seconds on the fresh hot biscuits.  One for Skid, One for Sandy. The cobbler was for me. :-)

Cheryl is being polite and having some of everything

For Hawaiians that are used to Teriyaki for breakfast.  Ryan and Shannon are doing a good job getting around this delicious "Cat Food"

Wild Rose likes Wild Blueberries and Tame Apple cobbler

The white thing is an Ostrich egg shell.  From breakfast here a couple years ago.

Cat and James have done a nice job of making their pretty home personal.

The Red Wall

Advantage to hauling.  On the back seat are left over's from Cat and James' breakfast, will go in the truck until it gets to the motel fridge. (maybe)

Mr. Siegelaar, our host. And, it's great to see John (Flyin' Willy)

VSP arrived and brings his chair with him

That water is COLD!

Hmmm. Who is the Canadian.....

This chicken has been laying eggs on this nest for at least the last 6 times we've been here

Phil, Katie (I think, subject to her right name), and Donald (VSP

Across from our motel

VSP doesn't really always need a walker, but he like to have it with him so he can sit down anywhere. Not a bad idea :-)

Always a big decision as to where to eat.  I think we have it pretty well decided for the main meals the next few days.

The Solvang Brewing Company was a good place to eat. The wait staff was very friendly and efficient, and the food was good. And Cat has such pretty hair.

We don't see Phil often, but he's always fun to be round. He was a regular at the High Sierra VROC the VSP hosted. This year he brought his daughter down on the Nomad.

Excellent!  Thick peppered bacon,  Medium rare meat and thick slice of melted cheddar. All the dressings are homemade.  Good little salad too.

Flying Willie's Meatballs and red cabbage

Not the best picture of Wild Rose, but a great picture of her sandwich

Gathering for evening gossip

Cat is playing some educational game on her tablet.  Not like "the good old days" when people talked, drank, and told stories. Most of us are getting so old, a good time is hitting the sack for sleep around 10. And, that's a late night. :-)

Solvang, except for the agriculture and Wineries, Survives on tourist trade.  And it's a wonderful place to visit

There will be more and better Solvang pictures tomorrow

Thumbs up for something

James, Ray and Phil.  California Boys (well, one semi-Canidian)

Cat's bright sweater confuses the light setting on my camera :-)

Boomer and Shannon got in a little too late for dinner.  They had business to do in the Los Angeles area, then rode Mulholland Drive before they got on the Coast Highway to find us.

Last shot of the day.  The crowd is building.  Jackets coming out.
