Joe and Susan rode their bikes, and Pat and I took the RV for an overnighter to the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, 30 miles South of Ajo, AZ |
Betty was our most excellent tour guide. This is the only place in the US where Organ Pipe Cactus grow. There are a of them in Mexico. |
26 mile trip through the desert wilderness. Beautiful back here. Very close to the Mexican Border |
Susan checking out a Crest |
Not all the clumps have a crest like this. Unusual. |
Similar to a Saguaro, but, really not. |
We're a few mile South of Utah..but we have our own arches. |
Zoomed in some |
Go West, young man...Go West |
Palo Verde |
JoJoba. Our Guide was very informative about the plants and trees |
The Mesquite is one of 3 desert trees that have beans on them. These were a staple of the Native, until the early explorers brought in corn and wheat.. |
The Guide told us there are as many Saguaros here in the area as there are in the Saguaro National Park over the hill in Tucson. But, they got the name first! |
We're about 2 weeks early for the desert flowers. They are coming in late this year, cold winter. But, some are starting to pop out |
Globemalo grow along all the highways as well as out in the desert |
Pat and I ate breakfast here about 4 years ago when they first opened. Still looks the same inside. |
Chicken's everywhere inside |
Our last meal together of the weekend |
Susan and I both had the Special. It was DELICIOUS |
A Badger Burger |
Pat had Mexican Chicken soup. Loaded with stringy cheese! |
As soon as we got home, I loaded up the Stratoliner. Found a buyer up near Las Vegas. It's getting dark now, will leave in the morning |
I only put a couple hundred miles on this bike, but enjoyed it a lot. If I didn't have a Wing, it could have been a keeper |
Windshiels, bags, and back rest are all quick disconnect. Can be bare in just a couple of minutes |
Ready to go gas up and check truck and trailer tires |
Added a few more desert pictures |
Betty |
